Traditions: American Visionary Art Museum

"Most museums, urban museums, are like fortresses. They say 'stay out, we have valuable things inside.' We wanted to be an extension of Federal Hill Park, right behind us, and be more like a Wonderland." In 1984 Rebecca Alban Hoffberger had the idea for a new museum and education center that would emphasize intuitive creative invention, and five years later the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) was born.

For this episode of Traditions we spoke with Rebecca Hoffberger, Founder and Director of the American Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.

Black Lung European Tour Part 1

Check out part one of our new three-part series, shot on tour with Black Lung through Central Europe.

After rehearsing for two days in Berlin and spending a fun but strange night at a couch surfing flat, we made way to our first show in Liepzig, Germany. It was at a DIY space buried deep in a back alleyway. Still, this was Germany, so there was a band apartment where we could crash, a kicker table and more booze than we could drink. We weren't able to do a whole lot of shooting in the space - the owners wanted to maintain a level of anonymity due to the venue's questionable legal standings - but it was a wild night and a great kick off to the 3,000km tour we had embarked on.
